Mary Berry Gurley Johnson

Wife of Honorable Henry V. Johnson, the twenty-fourth Mayor of Denver. First Lady of Denver from 1899-1901.  

Her Story

Personal

Mary was born in Sandusky County, Ohio 1865, and died in Denver, Colorado March 9, 1937 (Age 71). She currently resides peacefully at Fairmont Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Family

Mayor Johnson married Mary Berry Gurley Johnson in 1892. They had three two children and raised three children after the death of Mayor Johnson’s first spouse. The family resided at 1038 Pennsylvania St. 

​

Of Note

Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of Ohio Congressman John Berry. The family remained active in Denver civic affairs and were involved in many ongoing civic and charitable causes as well after Mayor Johnson’s term ended.
