Cordelia E. Bates
Wife of Honorable Joseph E. Bates, the tenth Mayor of Denver. First Lady of Denver from 1872-1873. She also served as the First Lady of Denver for the second time, from 1885-1887, as her husband served again as the eighteenth Mayor of Denver.
Her Story
Personal
Cordelia was born in 1834, and died in 1900. She resides peacefully at Riverside Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
Family
Mayor and Mrs. Bates were married in 1861 in New York. The Bates family had four children. The Bates family resided at 112 11th Street in Denver, Colorado.
Of Note
The family was very civic-minded. The family, led by Mrs. Bates was involved in several iconic Denver and Colorado-based businesses.
