Margaret D. Rogers

Wife of Honorable Platt Rogers, the twenty-first Mayor of Denver. First Lady of Denver from 1891-1893. 

Her Story

Personal

Mrs. Rogers was born in Des Moines, Iowa on  January 17, 1857, and died on October 23, 1943 (Age 86). She peacefully resides at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado.

Family

During the Mayoral years and afterwards, the family lived at Colfax and Washington St. (above photo).  Their home was noted as the hub for formal/informal planning/development meetings.  Five children grew up in the residence.

Of Note

Mrs. Rogers was a schoolteacher and was the daughter of a pioneer family from Iowa. She was noted for her ongoing civic involvement. After Mayor Roger’s death in 1928, she remained in the residence for ten additional years carrying on her important educational and civic service. She then moved to 201 Race Street. The mantle of the original Rogers’ residence had lettering which, when translated, read: “A warm heart is worth more than gold.”
