Caroline Deforest Buckingham
Wife of Honorable Richard Green Buckingham, the thirteenth Mayor of Denver. First Lady of Denver from 1876-1877.
Her Story
Personal
Caroline was born in New York in 1818, and died in Denver, Colorado in 1892 (Age 74). She now resides peacefully at Riverside Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Family
Mayor and Mrs. Buckingham were married on November 1839. They moved to Denver in 1863 and had three daughters. The Buckinghams lived on 14th Street between Champa and Curtis.

Of Note
Mayor Buckingham was a prominent surgeon and he, with the support of Mrs. Buckingham, helped found the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind. They also helped start a female college in Missouri prior to relocating to Denver. The family was also involved in the creation of the first high school in Denver.
