Wife of Honorable Amos Steck, the third Mayor of Denver. First Lady of Denver from 1863-1865.
Her Story
Personal
She was born in Pennsylvania on October 15, 1824, and died in Denver, Colorado on September 15, 1912 (Age 87). She resides peacefully at Riverside Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.
Family
Mayor and Mrs. Steck were school classmates that married in 1854 (she was thirty years old). Mrs. Steck arrived in Denver in 1860 with her one son and one daughter at that time. The Stecks had four children together.
Of Note
Mrs. Steck received the first telegraphic message sent from Denver (sent by then Mayor Steck) while on a trip back East (on October 10, 1863). She also sang in the church choir while her son played the organ during services.
