Julia O'Connor Morris

Wife of Honorable Robert Morris, the sixteenth Mayor of Denver. First Lady of Denver from 1881-1883.

Her Story

Personal

She was born in Ireland June 1845 and died in Denver, Colorado, in December 1924 (Age 79). Mrs. Morris now peacefully resides in Fairmont Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Family

Mayor and Mrs. Morris were married in New York on June 2, 1868. They both were U.S. immigrants and had seven children. The family resided at 1707 Franklin Street.

Of Note

After Mayor Morris’ two-year team ended, he served as Postmaster of Denver, thereafter, he worked for the railroad for twenty-seven years until his death. Julia remained very active in the community while focusing primarily on her children and their families. Mrs. Morris’ tombstone has the inscription “mother and wife.”
