Adella Brown Bailey

Wife of Honorable Dewey C. Bailey, the thirty-second Mayor of Denver. First Lady of Denver from 1919-1923. 

Her Story

Personal

Adella was born in Aurora, New York on February 8, 1860.  She then died in Denver, Colorado on January 4, 1937 (Age 76). She currently resides peacefully at Fairmont Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

Family

The Baileys were married in 1880 and had one child. They lived at 1543 York St.

Of Note

Mrs. Bailey was known as an American politician and a suffragist. Along with her husband, she was active in political life in Denver, and served as an alternate delegate from Colorado to the Republican National Convention in 1920, during her husband’s Mayoral term. She also was a club woman and was an active member of the Women’s Club in Denver. She served that group as president for four terms. Mrs. Bailey was featured in various publications during her lifetime and was consistantly noted for her philanthropic efforts.
