Caroline J. Stiles

Wife of Honorable Baxter B. Stiles, the eighth Mayor of Denver. First Lady of Denver from 1869-1871.

Her Story

Personal

She was born in Vermont in 1825 and died in Denver, Colorado on November 29, 1876 (Age 51). The location of her burial is unknown.

Family

Mayor and Mrs. Stiles were married in 1854, and later on, adopted a child together.

Of Note

Mrs. Stiles was a very early teacher of art, drawings, and paintings in Denver.

Special Note

Mayor Stiles married a second time, after this initial Mayoral term, and after the passing of the first Mrs. Stiles. His second wife was Sarah B. Woodward Stiles, they were married in 1878.
