Prof. Donald Mayer
Don Mayer is Professor of the Practice of Business Ethics & Legal Studies at Daniels College of Business, where he has taught Ethics for the 21st Century Professional, Law and Public Policy, Creating Sustainable Enterprises, and Foundations of Business Law. He is a co-author of several textbooks on law and international business, and has published numerous academic articles on business ethics, business and society, international law, and environmental law. He came to Daniels from Oakland University in 2007,where he was Professor of Management and Associate Dean in the School of Business Administration. He has taught law and ethics at several business schools—University of Michigan, Oakland University, and St. Mary’s College (California) since leaving law practice in 1985. He graduated with a degree in Philosophy from Kenyon College, earned a Juris Doctor at Duke Law School in 1985, and a specialized degree in international and comparative law from Georgetown University Law School in 1985.
My Story
Don Mayer is a Professor of the Practice of Business Ethics & Legal Studies at Daniels College of Business, University of Denver (DU), where he teaches business ethics, law and public policy, and international business law. He has served as chairperson for the Business Ethics and Legal Studies Department at DU. He is a co-author of several textbooks on business law and on international business law, and has published numerous academic articles on business ethics, business and society, international law, and environmental law. With Jim O’Toole, he co-edited Good Business: Exercising Effective and Ethical Leadership (200).

Professor Mayer came to DU from Oakland University in 2007, where he was a Professor of Management at the School of Business Administration. He graduated with a degree in Philosophy from Kenyon College (1970), earned a Juris Doctor at Duke Law School in 1973, and an advanced degree in International and Comparative Law from Georgetown University Law School in 1985. His current research interests include free speech and social media as well as corporate and public policy initiatives to make a difference with social and environmental issues. His many journal articles have appeared in the American Business Law Journal, Business and Society Review, the Journal of Business Ethics, and the Business Ethics Quarterly. He is the lead author on a number of textbooks published by Flatworld Knowledge, including Essentials of the Legal Environment of Business, and
Business Law and the Legal Environment, now in its third edition (2022).
